Just like that of ‘Aanamalai wildlife sanctuary’, ‘Aaliyar dam’ too is a short drive away from Pollachi. Situated in the foot hills of Valparai, Aaliyar dam is quite a popular picnic spot. You will also spot a park nearby that attracts large number of tourists. Among the impressive waterfalls in Valparai, start counting with the ‘Birla Falls’. Situated in the Sholayar estate, they are sure to woo you big time. Another impressive waterfall, ‘Congreve falls’ is named after C.R.T Congreve and is situated in the Nadumalai estate. Situated in a very close proximity to Valparai, the ‘Monkey Falls’ boast a special ability to rejuvenate your body and mind. Manompally forest – This one is a reserve forest and is located just about 20 km away from the town. You will get to meet the Manompally River there and also spot some crocodiles, though few in numbers. You can go for some adventurous trekking and you can also spot a trekking shed there on the banks of Manompally River. Just like that of Manompally forest, ‘Grass hills’ too is high on naturally beautiful locations. An extension of the Shola grasslands, this one forms a part of the ‘Indira Gandhi National Park’. A host of species are found here such as the Nilgiri Tahr and Nilgiri Pipit and to name a few others. Taking a short drive from Valparai will land you in the ‘Nallamudi- Pooncholai valley’. Just 15 km away from the town, this valley will give you an excellent view of the ‘Anamudi peak’. While you visit the valley, don’t miss those tribal settlements in there.
