A hill station in the Salem district in Tamil Nadu – Yercaud is located in the Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. Situated at an altitude of 1515 meters above sea level, the Shervaroyan temple is considered as the highest point in Yercaud. The Yercaud Lake, which is surrounded by well preserved gardens and dark woods, offers boating facilities. It must be noted that this is the only natural Lake situated in a hill station in the entire Southern part of India. The Killiyur Waterfalls are in the Shervaroyan hill range in the Eastern Ghats. This 300 feet high waterfalls offers a breathtaking sight, especially during the monsoon time. No doubt that people flock to this place during monsoon times. This waterfall is just some 3kms away from the Yercaud Lake. Tourists used to walk through the woods in order to reach the Killiyur Falls. Another interesting place in Yercaud is Pagoda Point. This viewpoint, which is also known as pyramid point, has four piles of stones there arranged in the shape of a pyramid. The available information say that this structure was built by the local tribes and you could also explore a Rama temple therein. The enchanting cliff therein, witness huge turnout of tourists and adventure lovers would simply love going for trekking through these cliffs. Situated on the way to the Shervaroyan Temple, Bear’s cave too is a tourist place that attracts great attention. Considered to be one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga, the temple therein happen to be a mesmerizing visual as the central area carved out of a single rock. On the banks of the Yercaud Lake, the Yercaud Lake Forest is home to some wonderful visuals as well. Located in a coffee estate, you could spot a Lake Forest hotel there as well.
