Hogenakkal is a small town located on the border of the two states Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The place belongs to Tamil Nadu state. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations of Tamil Nadu. The Hogenakkal Falls is the famous picnic spot here which is 750 feet high located in Melagiri Hills. The Falls is known as Niagara of India and is one of the most beautiful waterfalls. Kaveri River splits to form an island and plunges to the deep falls. The rocks are named as ‘Hogenakkal’ meaning ‘smoking rock’.
The biggest attraction apart from the falls is a ride in the river in a boat called coracle. It is round in shape and a ride in one is thrilling and can be great fun. Local kids are experts in diving and they jump from heights as high as 30 feet and come back within seconds. That is a sight to behold. The ride in coracle from one point to the base of the falls can be one of the most beautiful experiences in your lifetime, especially if you are with your dear ones.
Hogenakkal is preferred by tourists from Bangalore and Chennai for a day trip. It is only 130 km from Bangalore and from Tamil Nadu, Salem is very near. Nearest railway station is Dharmapuri and Salem. Nearest Airport is Bangalore International Airport.
