Mysore is famous for Mysore Pav and Mysore Silk. But it’s more than that. The erstwhile capital ok Karnataka State, is among the top tourist destinations of the country. It has another name-“Palace City of India” as it has beautiful palaces. The Mysore Palace is a very popular tourist spot. Its name is Amba Vilas and was residence of the royal family.
The Other palaces in Mysore are Lalitha Mahal and Jaganmohan Palace. Lalitha Mahal was the residence of Indian Viceroy. It is pure white and is extremely beautiful. The terrace and landscape gardens add to its beauty. Jaganmohan Palace is another palace of the royal family. It has a mystic beauty with its stained glass shutters and the ventilators. The Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion is another mansion built for a princess called Jayalakshmi Devi.
Brindavan Gardens, Mysore is a very famous tourist place. The botanical park with fountains is a great place to see around. Boat rides are also available under the dam. It was built along with the dam by the Diwans of Mysore.
Children will love the Happy Man Park which has a mini zoo with lots of hens, ducks etc. roaming around. It is beautifully landscaped with a stream and a few wooden bridges. Another park is the Butterfly Park in the Karanji Lake which is a bird park with play are for kids and boating facilities. Mysore is rich with parks-it has some 180 parks. There are big and small parks near residential areas.
Mysore is proud to have India’s First Sand Sculpture Museum. It has one hundred and fifty huge sculptures and is made with 115 trucks full of sand. There are many themes displayed showing the culture and heritage of Mysore. Regional Museum of Natural History is beside the Karanji Lake and is an interesting place with biological diversity and ecology. Folklore Museum stands in the Campus of the University of Mysore with over 6500 forms of folk arts. Rail Museum is a must-see for train lovers. Locomotives and carriages of the bygone era along with books and photographs related with railway can be seen here. Wax Museum is the only kind of Museum based on music displaying 100 statues and 300 musical instruments.
The other must-see places are the Chamundi Hills which shows a great panoramic view of Mysore, the St. Philomina’s Church with a unique architecture, the St. Bartholomew’s Church and the Mysore Zoo which is one of the most popular ones in India having a wide range of animals.
