Punjab

Punjab in North India is very famous throughout the country. The delicious Punjabi Cuisine especially Chapathi is popular all over India. Churidar and Salwar Kameez,, the most common attire for women in India apart from Sari, is also from this beautiful state. Punjab means ‘the land of five rivers” and the rivers are Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and Beas. Punjab is geographically located in the north-west of India. It is majorly an agricultural state and is famous for sports and hosiery goods industry. It is the homeland of Sikh religion and is blessed with temples, gurudwaras, museums, monuments, sacred shrines etc. The history, culture and mouth-watering cuisine attract thousands to this land. If you are someone interested in spirituality and heritage you should visit this place.

The major places to visit are Amritsar, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hosiarpur, Kapurthala, Muktsar, Pathankot, Patiala, Ropar etc. Department of Punjab Tourism organizes folk and cultural programmes every year which attracts tourists from India and abroad. There are a lot of traditional handicrafts and handlooms in Punjab. There are tourism information centers located in the different cities of Punjab to help tourists. February to April (Spring) and September to November (Autumn) is the best time to visit Punjab. World-famous monuments like Punjab Golden Temple, Jalianwala Bagh, Bhakra Nangal Dam, Wagah Border etc. should not be missed.
