Goa - a place beyond beaches and waterfalls….!

It was during one such travel From Bangalore to Goa that I really got wondered over the kind of beauty Goa has in it. Though I am not at all new to Goa, many of the things that came out of the blanket (or to be precise, I noticed) was a new experience for me in Goa and thanks to my friend, who woke me from bed and put this idea on table. And thus putting an end to the horrendous work that left behind me, I started to indulge myself in the journey.

It had been the case with some of my previous journeys and I was not in a mood to enjoy that eve in Colva beach in Madagog. This former Portuguese Colony has a lot to offer in it to change your mood. Well, this time it was a group of young boys who were destined for that to me. While watching their acrobatic skills, I just went past to my sweet old school day memories (No, I ain’t an old man, okay….!) Having seen some guys enjoying with parachutes in that beach, I realized how acrophobic I was then . Well, just a round through the parachute made me to think different. However, those patrol guards kept remember me not to go over excited about my newly found hobby. Goa is like this - offers a wide variety of choices before you in each of the nuke and corners of it. Though Goa is known mainly for its beautiful beaches, it has much more to offer. (No, I don’t say that those crazy beaches offers you no fun). But, apart from the much heard beaches - Anjuna Beach, Baga Beach, Benaulim Beach, Colva Beach, Dona Paula Beach etc. you can explore much more in Goa.

Constructed in 1613, Aguada Fort, has its tale to narrate about has been happening in in Goa from then onwards. Though the fort has a dark tale to tell about over the kind of pressure it attached to the prisoners, who tried to escape, the beastly beauty of it seem to have changed a bit over the time now. It is really an experience worth remember for a long time walking through the fort, especially when you are are an avid lover of historic tales.

Another place that really excites you is the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier in the Basilica of Bom Jesus, in old Goa. And how can you leave the first ever Church built in India - ‘Our lady of the Immaculate Conception Church’. Now, these are the places where you often have to shed out the atheist in you. These churches have already been declared as world heritage sites by UNESCO. On the other hand, when it comes to the ‘Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary’ - which is in Ponda Taluka, you can see a whole array of things there. Be it the deer safari park, Rose Garden, Eco - Tourism cottages and to name a few, all of them offers unlimited scope to enjoy the wildest beauty of nature. It is definitely going to be a thrilling experience while having a walk through this small, but elegant area of Goa.

While heading towards North Goa, you are privileged to visit the famous Arvalem Caves there. Situated in Bicholim town, these cave structures is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Goa. This historically important site will tell you a great deal about the ancient rock cut caves and structures. Nearby, you can also visit the Arvalem Waterfalls as well. It was during this visit that I noticed the height of some of the waterfalls there come well above 70 meters. It won’t be just a waterfall picnic day when you visit Arvalem. You can chant some mantras there in Rudreshwar Temple. The annual Navaratri Zatra marks the place been flooded with thousands of devotees from elsewhere the country. If you are a man, who loves to have a bit of spiritualism amidst these joyful holidays, then Goa will give you a perfect outing in it. Since the fact that the state is very tiny, you have all the things under one umbrella. You can have a whole lot of fun there, at the same time have a bit of your other aspects as well. Well, in that case, you can have a look at some famous temples such as Mahalaxmi Temple in Bandora village, and Mangeshi Temple which is not very far from there either.

How to reach:

By road: Goa is easily accessible to all other places in India. With more than 200 kilometers of both national and state highways, through road you can easily access Goa.

By train: By train too, Goa is a well connected place. In fact, it has two rail lines operating inside the state - South Western Railway and Konkan Railway, with the main railway station being Margao.

By air: The Goa International Airport, which is some 30 Km away from the state capital, Panaji is well connected with both domestic and international flights. The airport is one of the busiest ones in the country as well, thanks to the magnificent tourism tag attached to the state.

You have got a whole lot to explore in Goa other than the very beautiful beaches and gorgeous waterfalls. It was the lesson that I studied during this trip. Many more places are there that awaits you. Well, it is all up to you to explore this tiny small land portion of India.
