Kanyakumari-Southernmost tip of India

Situated at a distance of over just over 700 kilometres from Chennai, Kanyakumari is one of the most favourite tourist destination in Tamil Nadu. The meeting point of three seas, Kanyakumari is also a gift with superb natural visuals that can definitely be better than any other popular tourist beaches in india. There are numerous places to visit in Kanyakumari and make your holiday trip a wonderful experience.

Starting with Vivekananda Memorial - A structure that was built in 1970,Kanyakumari offers you a blend of philosophy and enjoyment. The memorial which was constructed on the Vivekananda rock is where Swami Vivekananda was said to have meditated, attracts large amount of people during any time, be it on the season time or off season time. The nearby rock called, Sripada Parai too is a wonderful structure and go hand in hand with that of Vivekananda Memorial. The Kumari Amman temple is associated with a whole lot of legends that are indeed associated with Hindu Goddess Parvati and can give you an insight to the kind of glorious culture that the country has had in the past. The same can be applied to the Thirukural statue as well which is a symbol of the kind of respect that each Tamilian gives to Thiruvallur - the author of 'Thirukkural', or that of the 1000 year old Guganathaswamy temple.

Another interesting piece of work that you will find in Kanyakumari is the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial - The structure which is at the height of 79 feet. The relevance of this structure is that it was in this place that the ashes of the Great Gandhi was kept before immersing into the sea. Kanyakumari is also home to another great memorial - Kamaraj Memorial which is for giving respect to Kamaraj - The man, who is often regarded as the Kingmaker of india. The Government museum in Kanyakumari is another interesting place to visit which has many interesting elements inside the place such as tribal works, Zoological - Botanical specimen, wood carving etc.

The Headquarters of Vivekananda Kendra - Vivekanandapuram is a treat for natural lovers. Having boarding facilities for up to 2000 people at any given point of time the place also has a well established library where you will get all the information that you need regarding Swami Vivekananda and his philosophical beliefs, ethics and values of life. Truly this is a place, actually is a must visit place for all the ones who respects and wants to follow the footsteps of the great Vivekananda Swami. Situated in the outskirts of the city of Kanyakumari, sites such as Suchindram temple, Nagaraja temple Padmanabhapuram palace etc. too are worth a visit.
