Darjeeling, Bengal

It is delight to visit Darjeeling and no wonder that the place witnesses this kind of large travelers visiting it round the year. Well, what makes Darjeeling a tourist’s heaven is its pleasant weather and scenic beauty combined with a handful of delightful sights.

'Happy Valley Tea Garden' as the name indicates, offers a very happy time therein and is located on the Lebong Carter Road. The garden, which mounts up a much relaxing environment that can’t be achieved from the cities, is less than 1 km drive from the town of Darjeeling. ‘The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway’ on the other hand is a fun experience and is essentially a UNESCO World Heritage site as well. Popularly known as the ‘Toy Train’, this narrow gauge railway offers tremendous views of the pleasant mountains, which are in and around Darjeeling. 

‘The Tiger Hill’ will give you an extravagant display of the Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Usually tourists flock this place for getting the enchanting look of the sun rising over the mountain peaks. A spectacular natural beauty, ‘Tiger Hill’ is located some 10 km away from Darjeeling and is situated at an altitude of 2590 meters. Dedicated to the former governor of West Bengal, Padmaja Naidu – the ‘Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park’ happens to be the only zoo that raises wild wolf in captivity. Well, the zoo is also home to numerous endangered species as well that counts Red Panda, Siberian Tiger, Snow Leopard to name a few.

At the same time, the ‘Observatory Hill’ not only serves the glee purposes, but also caters the needs of the religious aspects of both Hindu and Buddhist devotees. The Mahakal Temple and Bhutia Busty Gompa all attracts large number of devotees. The condition is similar for ‘Dhirdham Temple’ as well, wherein you are expected to meet a beautifully colored temple complex and is also the oldest temple in Darjeeling. On the other hand, ‘St. Andrew’s Church’ is both a culturally important site as well as owes a special place in the history books. Witnessed to many adverse conditions, this church which was built in 1843 was attended by the Scottish soldiers and tea planters during the earlier times. Also the ‘War Memorial’, which was constructed in memory of the brave martyrs before the Independence of the Country in 1947. ‘The Japanese Peace Pagoda’ too is a similarly interesting place in Darjeeling.

However, many peoples who visits Darjeeling expects some degree of adventurous trips and Darjeeling has no hesitation to give what they need. The unbelievably remarkable trekking experience across the Darjeeling hills, usually spans for some five hours in some cases goes as long as 3 – 4 days of heavier treks. Well, it’s a fantastic experience, when you get a chance to climb over four of the largest peaks in the world. That said, you have plenty of shopping facilities as well therein the Darjeeling town and the ‘Chowrasta’ and many other shopping malls meets your need for shopping.
