Cherrapunji is located in Meghalaya and is the only place in the country having monsoon season the whole year. There are beautiful valleys, rivers, clouds and flora and fauna. There are waterfalls, caves and parks too.
Attractions in Cherrapunji
The Double Decker Root Bridge is a 100-feet long bridge that gets 50 or more people at a time. The Dainthlen Waterfalls is 5 kms away from Cherrapunji and is beautiful with rock carvings and scenery. David Scott Memorial is a British Monument erected recognizing David Scott. Eco Park was established by the Government of Meghalaya. It is an international border and you can see the Sylhet plains of Bangladesh from there. Several orchid varieties can be seen from there.
Khasi Monoliths are built in memory of ancestors. One has beautiful underground passages lying under caves. Krem Phyllut Cave is 1002 m long with three entrances and two river passages and is situated in the village of Mawsmai. Krem Mawmluh Cave is the fourth longest cave in India which is 4503 m high and is located just 500 m to the west of Cherrapunji. There is a pool which is formed from five rivers.
Cherrapunjee Theological College is established in 1888 to teach Christianity. Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church brought Christianity to Cherrapunjee in 1846 established by Rev. Thomas Jones.The Nohkalikai Waterfalls lie 5 kms from Cherrapunji and is the fourth highest waterfall in the world. It falls from a height of 1100 ft. The view is great especially in monsoons.
Thangkharang Park under State Forest Department is also very near Bangladesh. So you can get a beautiful view from there. Kynrem Waterfall is also near the Park 1000 feet high. Another attraction is a large stone a few kilometers away from this Park – Khoh Ramhah. It looks like a Khasi Basket and has this name meaning Basket of the Giant.
Mawsmai Falls are a few km from Cherrapunji which is 1035 feet high. It is fourth highest waterfall in India.
