Imphal, Manipur

Imphal is the capital of Manipur, a state in north-eastern India. It is blessed with many attractions for the discerning traveler.  The ruins of Kingdom of Manipur can be seen in the Kangla Fort which is situated on the Imphal River bank. It is the Palace of Kangla which was the residence of erstwhile King Pakhangba.

There are many temples here and the view is beautiful with its three sides covered by Lake. Another attraction is the Hivangthang Lairembi Temple Complex which holds Durga Puja Festival annually in the months of September / October. Jama Masjid is the only mosque or muslim church in Imphal and it is situated on a river bank of Nambul River.

The Shree Govindajee Temple was very important during the Maharaja reign. It is near the Palace. The Imphal War Cemetery has trees and monuments which remember the soldiers, both Indian and British who had fought and had a brave death in World War II.

The Ima Keithel is a very interesting place and is an all-women market. All market stalls have women and it holds the numero uno position as the only such market in whole world. The ISKCON Temple is yet another attraction of the city.
