Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Shimla is an extremely popular tourist destination in North India. It is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Before independence, it was the summer capital for the British due to the pleasant climate. The place is blessed with a thousand attractions for any traveler. Shoppers can go to The mall which has all the attractions for them. The Ridge is the main road of Shimla covered in snow.



The popular ones for those interested in sightseeing are: Christ Church which is a very old church, which has a majestic look with stained glass windows. They represent Christian values such as faith, charity, hope, humility etc. Jakhu Hill is 2 km away from Shimla and is 8000 ft. high which give you a wide view of Shimla town and the great Himalayas.There is a big statue of Lord Hanuman which is 108 feet high.

Jutogh is an army cantonment 8 kms from the city. The Shimla State Museum holds the culture since 1974. Pahari paintings, wood carvings, sculptures, jewellery of the place, costumes etc. can be seen here. Summer Hill is a beautiful township where Gandhiji used to live on his visits. The Himachal Pradesh University is also there. The Indian Institute of Advanced Study is another attraction as its at an ancient building built in 19th century which was the viceregal lodge.

Annadale is a beautiful ground belonging to the Indian Army which is a sight to behold. Tara Devi is a hill with a temple dedicated to ‘Tara Devi’ (Goddess of stars). There is dairy town of the army and headquarters of scouts and guides here.

The other major attractions include Sankat Mochan, Junga, Anand Vilas, Totu, Mashobra, Kufri, Chharabra, Naldehra, Chail, Tattapani and Sanjauli.
