The city of Ahmedabad is often hailed
as one of the most important trade centers in the country. Well, the city which
was named after ‘Sultan Ahmed Shah’, officially came into existence in the year
of 1411. Also, the city holds a special place during the freedom struggle

is definitely a place worth visit, if you wish to see the coming age of India.
Out of
the many places in Ahmedabad, the first one that comes in the priority list of
a traveler here is the ‘Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram’. The famous ashram, which is
situated on the west bank of Sabarmati Rivers, was the residence of Gandhiji during
the time period of 1917 to 1930. You can see the belongings of Mahatma there.
‘Ahmed Shah Mosque’ is another place that gathers attention for a wide variety
of reasons. Arguably, the most famous mosque in Ahmedabad, this one is situated
on the South West of Bhandra fort. Built in the year of 1414, the mosque
however is an excellent example of the Hindu & Jain architecture. The
beautiful pillars and jalis are quite impressive as well.
On moving to a rather less serious places, you can have ‘Balvatika’ that will be an excellent outing for the children. Situated on the banks of Kankari River, the park has quite some recreational activities for both kids and elders. ‘Bhadra Fort’, which was again built by Ahmed Shah, has completed the final finishing touches in the year of 1413. Built in the year of 1500 by Harir Sultani, ‘Dada Hari Step Wall’ is a greatly popular monument in Ahmedabad. Well, the city of Ahmedabad has lot more in it in the form of Daria Khan’s Ghummet, Geeta Mandir, Hatheesing Jain Temple etc. which tells the rich story of the city from the past. On the other hand, SV Patel National Memorial and Tribal Museum are the places that can wonder you. Well,
taking out a ride from the city will place you in some excellent tourist spots
as well. There are numerous places in the close proximity of the city of
Ahmedabad. Well, ‘Adalaj Vav’ – a hugely popular vacation spot in Gujarat is
less than 20 km away from Ahmedabad. If you want to travel to the capital city
of the state – Gandhinagar, you don’t have to travel for more than half an
hour. Gandhinagar, obviously is one of the best planned cities in India and is
on the banks of Sabarmati River. Another excellent family outing option near
Ahmedabad is the ‘Water World Resort’. At a distance of just over fifty
kilometers from the city, this resort is home to many interesting things, for
example the Shanku’s Water Park. Former Harappan site ‘Lothel’ too is in
the close proximity.
