Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

The great adventurous Bandhavgarh National Park is situated in the Umaria district in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Sprawling over 450 sq.km, the park has given a repository to several species of birds and mammals. Though the place is not so easy to reach, it is definitely a place that you have to visit for the kind of breathtaking flora and fauna that it has. Home to white tigers, Bison, Cheetahs, Langgors and Sambars, this national park offers some great safaris as well.

Among the many interesting features of the national park, Bandhavgarh Hills is the one that deserves a special mention here. The place, which is situated among the outlying hills of the Vindhya Range, boasts an average height of 811 meters above the sea level. The forest area of Bandhavgarh is mainly constituted by ‘Sal forest’. However, it soon gets into a more deciduous forest while you enter more into the region. The place is abundant with lots of bamboos. The forest area has been divided mainly to four different zones. Named as ‘Tala zone’, ‘Magdhi zone’, ‘Khitaud zone’ and ‘Panpatta zone’, you can see that it is in the Thala zone, wherein you can reach the densest part of the forest region. However, the biggest attraction in all these regions happens to be the presence of tigers. Well not only tigers, but the place is densely populated with other species such as ‘gaur’ or known as ‘Indian Bison’, ‘Sambar’, ‘Barking Deer’ etc.

As we mentioned earlier, how can a jungle trip be complete without the adventurous safaris…! The most popular one among the visitors here is ‘Jeep Safari’. There are two rounds of jungle safaris been done there in the Thala – Magadhi – Khitaudi zones. Though there are enough jeeps available there to accommodate the visitors, one has to be cautious in order to book the trip at least 90 days in advance. It is because that the forest witnesses huge inflow of visitors during the peak times and in holidays. The region is also home to many interesting resorts as well. ‘Tiger – Lagoon Resort’, ‘Nature Heritage Resort’, ‘Tiger Den Resort’ are some of the most popular options chosen by the visitors regularly. Apart from the adventurous experience through the forest, one can also use this opportunity to visit some historically important sites as well. The Bandhavgarh Fort is one of the oldest forts made in India. Expected to have been in existence for over 2000 years, the fort witnessed the ruling of many dynasties, with the last inhabitants leaving the place in the year of 1935. The Cave Point can show you the archeological remains of the past, while the Bari Gufa is one of the biggest man made caves. Gopalpur, Mahaman pond too are some other interesting sites that you can explore in Bandhavgarh.

Well the people who visits this national park, never misses to visit ‘Khajuraho temples’, ‘Kanha National Park’, which are at a distance of nearly six hour drive from ‘Bandhavgarh’.
